Rubye Box

Administrative Assistant

Started at Woodland: May 1, 2015

Bio

Born in Jackson, MS. Finished high school there and then went to a local community college. Moved to Texas in 1974 with husband, Floyd, and three children – Sherri, Karen and Brian. Husband was transferred all over Texas with Allstate finally establishing his own insurance agency. I worked for two other churches during those years but also spent 18 years working for CNA and The Hartford in their group departments. We both retired, sold our home in Tomball in 2008, purchased a motor home and traveled for 4 years. Had a great time. Came back to San Antonio when we decided to get off the road.

Roles at Woodland

I answer the phones, respond to all incoming emails, submit info for payroll, keep the church calendar updated, create documents, keep prayer list updated, and the list goes on. Anything that has to be done in the church office, I am usually the one handling it. If you need something, just let me know and I will make it happen.

Hobbies

I love to read, sew, and work in my yard.

Favorite Scripture

Isaiah 43:1b “Do not be afraid – I will save you; I have called you by name and you are mine.” (Good News Bible) What a wonderful thought that Jesus called me by my name and now I belong to Him.

Favorite Hymn

Victory in Jesus

Worst job you've ever had, and what did you learn from it?

First job: Taking orders by phone for a food service company. I learned that most companies do not treat their employees badly but it was my first job so I didn’t have anything to compare it to. I didn’t realize how badly I was treated until I had my second job and was treated with kindness and respect.

What advice would you give to your teenage self?

Don’t grow up too fast.

Are you musical?

Do not play an instrument but do love to sing. Been in a choir in high school and church since I was 14. Sang in a ladies’ quartet for 12 years. We were known as “Rejoice” and we sang at many venues across the Houston area. We sang for LifeTimers once too.

What is your favorite board game, card game, or table game?

Mexican Train and Chicken Foot.

Favorite place to eat in San Antonio

Sea Island for catfish; Pasha for humus and their wonderful bread; PJ’s for their Tri-cut steak.

Do you have any pets?
