As the official 20-year war in Afghanistan comes to a close, the shockwaves of war and instability will be felt all around the world for years to come… Including here in San Antonio with the arrival of Afghans who have been displaced.
With about 100 families expected to be resettled here in the city, our Christian faith reminds us, “When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born.” (Lev. 19:33-34)
Woodland, let’s help them. We have a partnership with the Center for Refugee Services. The mission of CRS is to promote the wellness, self-sufficiency, and successful community integration of resettled refugees and their families. You can learn more about CRS here.
You can help in three ways: give, write, and serve.
- Give to CRS. This will allow CRS to meet the specific needs of the refugees as they resettle here in San Antonio. You can give online here or bring a check or cash to church and mark it, Afghan Refugees. We are collecting this special offering through Monday, September 6.
- Write a note of welcome to Afghan refugee families. We want our new San Antonio neighbors to feel welcome here. You can write your note at home and bring it Sunday to Woodland or write one Sunday morning. See a sample note.
- Serve with CRS. Click on this link to a SignUpGenius.
Thank you for helping welcome the Afghan refugees to San Antonio.
