Advent & Christmas at Woodland

From its beginning, Advent has been a time of serious contemplation . . . acknowledging the darkness of the current age, but at the same time sensing the light which is coming into the world. This mercurial manner of thinking is best seen in the angelic visits that lead to the Christ Child event. The very first words uttered by the messengers of God were: “Fear not!” These angels were not cherubic babies issuing in a romantic time when all was to be well. Rather, they came in difficult times with startling news that called for all the commitment and imagination one could muster. Therefore, as we enter into this Advent, we, too, are called to pay attention in a manner that will require all of the creativity and courage we can muster. Fear not, sisters and brothers. God is doing something new here among us!
