Souper Bowl of Caring

This year our youth are collecting food for the San Antonio Rescue Mission. Here are some things you can get:

Rice, Peanut Butter, Pasta, Can soup, Vegetables, Soup Mix, Can fruit, Pudding, Cookies, Sugar, Flour, Beans, Crackers

All canned staples are good.  Also pinto beans (cooked or uncooked) and spaghetti.

If yon want to donate meat,  contact Terry Green for details.

More than 20 years ago, Souper Bowl of Caring began with a simple prayer from a single youth group:

Lord, as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us to be mindful of those without even a bowl of soup to eat.

SouperBowl-logoHIRES__99 Since that day, more than $71 million has been raised for local charities across the country through Souper Bowl of Caring.  Last year, our youth led Woodland to give 1/4 ton of food to the San Antonio Food Bank. We hope to double that this year!

Please bring your food on Sunday, February 6 and leave it in the parking lot beside your car. The youth will gather the food at the beginning of Sunday School and at the end of Sunday School.

Hunger Facts

An estimated 49 million Americans are food insecure. Of those 49 million, almost 17 million are children and 5 million are seniors. Last year, over 37 million people used a Food Bank for emergency food assistance.

Nearly one out of every four children and one out of every five adults in Southwest Texas lives in poverty and has difficulty meeting basic nutritional needs. Sixty-five percent of the people requesting emergency food have children. Senior citizens and those living on a fixed income often have limited funds for a consistent grocery budget. Meanwhile, enormous quantities of surplus food are available from the food industry, food manufacturers, and farmers.

Last year, organizations through Souper Bowl of Caring, collected $9,605,368.08 in cash and food items for 10,173 Charities.
